Description
The library is partnering with the Alzheimer's Association to serve as a watch site for their series of virtual "Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body" programs.
Communication is more than talking and listening - it's also about sending and receiving messages through attitude, tone of voice, facial expressions, and body language. As people with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias progress in their journey and the ability to use words is lost, families need new ways to connect. Join us to explore how communication takes place when someone has Alzheimer's, learn to decode the verbal and behavioral messages delivered by someone with dementia, and identify strategies to help you connect and communicate at each stage of the disease.
Then, learn how art can stimulate creativity through Art Express, an evidence-based program designed for persons experiencing memory loss or dementia. Administered by the Dale and Deborah Smith Center for Alzheimer's Research and Treatment at SIU Medicine, Art Express is free, and provides social interaction and cognitive stimulation for those with Alzheimer's and their caregivers.
Please note, this is a virtual presentation organized by the Alzheimer's Association and the Cherry Valley Public Library is serving as a public watch site to increase access to this program.
